Dauntless Indies is featuring S. L. Dearing author of The Gathering.
I love the Gathering. I haven’t quite finished it with being so busy with mine, but it simply comes down to not wanting to have to put it down a hundred times, so just about the time I publish Falling, I’ll disappear for a day to finish this epic book. She also has an assortment of shorts that appear in anthologies. ~Brandy L Rivers
Another world war has happened and everything we knew is now gone. There are no more countries. No more government… only survivors who have created a new world made up of small colonies. It has been thirteen years and the village of Lia Fail sits peacefully above the Hollywood Reservoir in the Santa Monica Mountains. The settlement is making ready to host the fall Gathering, a time where every six months the other colonies from various parts of what was once Southern California visit for ten days of fun and reminiscence. The Gathering begins as any other party. A time for new loves, old friends, family, dancing and fun, but all too soon that changes. The people in Lia Fail begin to strange things they can’t explain, several are attacked by unseen forces and friends begin to distrust friends. When they receive news of a horrific massacre, they realize they must face an impending dark evil that threatens to descend on the tranquil village. Alia Stark, the queen of Lia Fail, must face this darkness. But she will face the evil along side her oldest and dearest friends, as well as an incredible new ally. The fate of her people, the lives of her children and freedom itself rests in her hands. Will she have the courage to do what must be done? This is the beginning of a journey that will change all of their lives forever.
A Little bit of Q & A
– What inspired you to write your first novel?
It was not long after Afghanistan and Iraq and N. Korea was being threatening and I wondered what if? That led to more questions and soon characters. They wanted out and I started to write my first novel.
– What books/authors have inspired your life most?
My favorite books are The Stand by Stephen King, The Harry Potter Series by J,K. Rowling, The Wyrd Museum Trilogy by Robin Jarvis, The Bad Place by Dean Koontz, The Immortal Heart Series by Magen McMinimy, The Immortals After Dark Series by Kresley Cole and the Roommate Romance Series by Rene Folsom… to name a few. These have been the most influential authors thus far… – Whom would you consider a writing mentor(s)? Mr. Gene Moffitt, My Senior Creative Writing teacher, he was the one who really established the idea I could write and Dr. Jerry Hendrix, my most loved and favorite teacher. He took me to the next level of writing. Without these two men, I don’t think I would be who I am today.
-What book(s) are you reading now?
I am currently reading Immortal Craving by Magen McMinimy
-Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I have recently fallen in love with Magen’s work, Brandy L. Rivers and Sarah M. Cradit’s work as well.
– What are your current writing projects?
I am working on a screenplay and I also have a short I plan to release on Dec 20th. It’s part of the Lia Fail Chronicles. I also have 4 more shorts due in the month or so for several different projects. Both are due to release in February.
– What would we find you doing when you’re not at the keyboard?
Depends… I also make jewelry and swag, so I could be doing that, or spending time with family or friends, or reading, or baking or cooking, or playing Sudoku or working. – What are your favorite setting(s) to read/write about? Depends on my mood really. I’m hoping to take on horror in the New Year as well as write the second book in the Lia Fail Series, as well as the shorts. Reading, I love to read anything that’s intriguing and well done – If you could be any character in your book(s), which would you be and why? I would be Alia. She’s strong and kind and an amazing mother. She’s who I long to be…
– I’m a potential new fan. Sell me your book in ten words or less.
